Edo State chapter of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) has held its closeout ceremony in Auchi on Thursday at the Palace of HRH, Alh. Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom and at Pond II (Ikelebe Sports Arena).

At the Otaru's Palace, Edo NEWMAP thanked the people of Auchi for being very accommodating, cooperating and for helping to ensure that the projects carried out were done according to standards.

The team which was led by Mr. Jonathan Lawani, Edo state Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability told His Royal Highness that the visit to his Palace was necessary because when the projects were to begin, they came to solicit the support of the king and his people and having enjoyed a robust and smooth relationship that made their stay in Auchi a success, it was only wise to again come and appreciate the Monarch.

The Commissioner appreciated the Otaru's fatherly role during the project and promised to ensure that a continued relationship ensues between the people of Auchi and government so that more environmental problems can be addressed to enhance living standards and to make the environment sustainable.

HRH, Alh. Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, Otaru of Auchi informed the team that he is impressed with the level of works that have been done and made a passionate appeal that all areas that have been mapped out as grey areas in the project be addressed to properly ice the cake of the project. He noted that all these areas have been properly noted during his inspections and same have been documented for the attention of NEWMAP just so they can do better and etch their names in the good book of time.

On his part, Dr. Tom Obaseki, the Project Coordinator of Edo NEWMAP thanked His Royal Highness profusely and stated that all the areas of concern that have been marked have been brought to his notice. He informed all that though NEWMAP is closing out, there's a maintenance window that has been opened to ensure that no part of the project is left unattended before the final handing over of same to the community.

Hajia Mariam Ezolomhe, Edo NEWMAP consultant corroborated the assertions of Obaseki stating that NEWMAP having completed its term is closing out but that a similar body with same responsibilities is to take over to continue work in areas of interest in view of ensuring continuity.

The Otaru of Auchi prayed for a good and profitable relationship between Auchi and the government as well as appreciated H.E, Godwin Obaseki, Governor of Edo State for helping to revive the Fertilizer company which offers jobs and services that serve as source of livelihood for its workers and is adding to the GDP of the country.
