Tensions have begun to
swirl in anticipation towards resumption of Auchi Day Football tournament
holding at the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena after the New Gregorian Calendar year 2020
break.
The event which saw a
goalless draw between Akpekpe and Iyekhei in Match Day 4 of the competition at
Ikelebe Sports Arena, has been on a-two-day break to allow the boys some rest
to recuperate and come back rejuvenated in the wake of the year 2020.
The last match was
played on the 31st of December 2019 but both teams, though competed fiercely,
failed to net the ball at the end of 90minutes. The reigning champions, Akpekpe
who played against Iyekhei were held to a draw and a paltry 1 point was earned
by both teams.
Matches are expected to
resume on the 3rd of January 2020 with a face-off between Utsogun and Igbei. Igbei
who currently sits at 3rd position on the league table will try to take a point
from the Utsogun side that have lost none of their outing in the ongoing
competition.
Interactions with Sule
Momodu (Someone) the Utsogun head coach, have suggested that his team is
focused and poised at raising the cup at the end of the tournament and this is
evident in the way they have taken all 9points in three appearances.

Auchi Day Football
competition is an event planned by the Committee in charge of carrying out the
yearly Auchi Day celebrations which comes up every 8th of January to bring home
the sons and daughters of the Sacred kingdom to merry with one another in view
of the progression of the cosmopolitan town, Auchi. The competition seeks
amongst other things, to unite the people through the medium of sports (especially
football).
While anticipating an
eventful merry filled Auchi Day in 2020, it is hoped that the best team wins and
new talents are not only discovered but promoted to stardom.
