Day 6 of the Auchi Day
Football Competition has recorded a swirling of goals at the Ikelebe Sports’
Arena following the clashes between Iyekhei and Aibotse at about 9a.m and that
of Igbei and the reigning champions, Akpekpe at 4pm on the 4th of January,
2020.
Iyekhei suffered an
own-goal from their defender Azeez who in an attempt to send the ball into the
hands of the goalkeeper only helped in opening the scoreline in favour of their
opponent as the ball found the back of the net. Bala advanced the win with a 2
goal lead which was quickly retaliated by Shaka who beautifully knocked the
ball with his head beyond the reach of the Aibotse keeper. Innocent settled the
scores with an equalizing strike before the final whistle went off and it was
both teams sharing a point each with two goals per side at last.
The 4pm match revealed
superb footballing as team Akpekpe came to the game of play through their
winning ways to exhibit the uncommon features that earned them their current
status as the reigning champions.
Goals poured in angrily
from the ever hungry side as they wore out their opponent to a wholesome 4
goals to 1 win. Aruna drove in 2 goals while Perro and Windek contributed a goal
each to make it a 4goal lead but Igbei were able to convert a penalty offense
to a goal scoring opportunity that saw them earning a goal off the match
through Aruna (Igbei’s Aruna).
The Akpekpe side have
hitherto this match lost to Utsogun and drawn Iyekhei in a goalless match. They
now have 4 points and 4goals with the hope of playing Utsogun in the finals if
they defeat Aibotse at Day 7 match which will be played on Sunday the 5th of
January, 2020.
Anything short of a win for Akpkpe in their
Sunday outing leaves Iyekhei qualifying for the battle of the 9th Edition of
Auchi Day Football Championship cup with Utsogun.
