African Traditional Wrestling is Superb! This
is one of the many avenues privileged in the Blackman's world to actually showcase 'MAN PASS MAN' and 'MAN NO
FIT SAY MAN NO DEY'. It could be considered to be one among many championed
sporting exercise to bring out the strong and mighty by physical capability
among the people.
Interestingly,
in the good old days awardees of prizes during wrestling contest in the African
society were solely classified on merit and among the common prizes handed the
victorious of the wrestling contest was a beautiful lad for marriage, after
all, no woman wish for a lazy man either by physical strength or pocket and financial
wise.
Historically,
during the era of internecine war among clans and communities in the Africa
society, quite notable are the sophisticated wrestlers who were deployed
forward to make their community or clan proud like Amalinze the cat from immortal Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart. It was
and still a common decimal of cherished heritage among Africans to be strong in
muscle and strong in field at any eventuality from aggression whether by an
individual or group nor from the axis of inter community..
This age
long sport is as old as the egalitarian societies in Africa, it was well
demonstrated during the recent past 23rd edition of AUCHI DAY 2020 held on 8
January, 2020 at the expansive Auchi palace ground, GRA, Auchi, Edo State.
Among
multiple reasons for the wrestling exercise or contest is to entertain the generality
of the people who gather for leisure purposes during special occasions, and as
an avenue to check out young energetic men that could front for the community
at the hours of inter tribal or communal challenges among others.
Modestly,
to the admiration of the sports loving Royal father, His Eminence, Alhaji. H.A.
Momoh, Ikellebe III, Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kindom, Edo state and his
distinctive guests of Royals and the who is who among the political class
including the Edo sate governor, HE Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, HE Philip
Shuaibu were visibly all in attendance.
To the Glory of Allah the Most High and service to
humanity in keeping fate with our blessed destiny as a people the AUCHI DAY
2020 was celebrated and marked with pomp and pageantry.
