The essence of culture has been reiterated through the display of traditional practices by staff and students of Al-Mukhtar Secondary School in Auchi on Thursday.

Members of the public were thrilled to an entertaining show of different cultural heritages of the three major tribes in Nigeria as well as that of the Etsako people.

The event which was simultaneously held at Winners road and the Aviele branch of Al-Mukhtar featured drama, dance, riddles, stories, pageant and the display of different African Traditional Cuisines.

Speaking on the importance of culture, Abdulganiyu Elamah, Principal of the Winners road branch told all that although the nation is decorated with people of different culture, the essence of such difference is not to divide but to beautify and unite us.

He stated that culture is the identity of the people and that Al-Mukhtar recognizes the import of culture to the point of marking same by setting out a special day for celebrating and emphasizing the need for our people to always remember that western education though important is not superior to the people's culture.

Mr. Marwan Enakhe, Proprietor of Al-Mukhtar while speaking to AUCHI BLOG & SERVICES  called on parents to speak their indigenous languages, instill core African values and guide their children ethically as parts of efforts geared towards assisting teachers to better educate and empower students.

He stated that the education of a child is not exclusively the duty of the teachers no matter how good such teachers are at their job.
"our parents should try to assist us by making sure that whatever good is taught the students at school is also emphasized at home. This will further help the child to internalize the knowledge gained and at the end the child becomes better for his or herself and for the society." he said.

At the Peak of the event, representatives of the Igbo cultural heritage came first as Etsako followed next at second position. Those representing the Hausa-Fulani tribe clinged the third position while the Yoruba team came fourth.

High point of the ceremony was the unveiling of Mr. and Miss. Al-Mukhtar where Kazeem Habeebat of the Hausa-Fulani team and Mahmud Yasin of team Igbo emerged winners.
