Team Utsogun has recorded an unprecedented league outing in the 9th Edition of Auchi Day Football Competition which was held at the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena.

A feat worthy of being in World’s Guinness Book of Record was achieved in Auchi Sacred Kingdom on the 7th of January 2020 when Utsogun won the 9th  Edition of Auchi Day Football Tournament for the 4th time.

The team had started out strong on the 28th of December 2019 when they humbled Iyekhei with a lone goal win in the opening match day. They went on to trash Akpekpe to a 2:0 victory, won their match against Igbei with a goal lead, defeated Aibotse to another 1:0 win and humiliated the champions of the 8th Edition in the finals win a lone goal.

With a total 15points and 6 goals, the Sule Momodu led side (Utsogun) who happen to be the 1st Son of Uchi, has symbolically portrayed and displayed their seniority in not just leadership in the scheme of things but have through sports reiterated its position as the head of Auchi Sacred Kingdom. They recorded no goals scored against them and the enviable position of an unbeatable team in the history of football in Afenmai land.

Tribunal who emerged Man of the Match scored the winning goal for Utsogun making it his second goal of the tournament. He reminded jeyKAD of an earlier promise to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.
I told you before that we were going to emerge the winners, you can see now that it has become a statement of fact. I want to appreciate our fans and supporters for this great feat. I am using this medium to appeal that they should continue with their great work. I appreciate them and I also appreciate you jeyKAD for the coverage and publicity you’ve given to the league. God bless you” he said.

Coach Sule (Someone) who could not contain his joy told jeyKAD that he was always optimistic about turning out the best team of the tournament because he believed in the ability of his boys to deliver.
I am very very happy as you can see because I feel fulfilled with victory. If I tell you that I’m not happy I’ll be telling you a big lie. I expected it and I got it. Our fans have been superb and I indulge them to keep supporting good football” he said.

However, the aftermath of the event later turned an altercation between fans of Akpekpe and the central referee, Emmanuel popularly known as Kaka. They accused him of collecting bribe in view of favouring Utsogun to emerge winners and vowed to deal with him.

Chairs wear destroyed and the DJ was forced by some angry youths to stop playing music as they angrily pulled his plug from a power generating set. Matters degenerated to the point where Kaka was physically manhandled by angry youths of Akpekpe while the Referee was trying to change into his casual wears.

A full blown confrontation later broke out outside the Ikelebe Sports Arena where youths of both Akpekpe and Utsogun engaged in wielding arms in form of stones and bottles against each other. The Nigerian Police however were on ground to manage the situation by firing shots that drove all warring factions home.
