"Something has to be done about reducing vehicular speed and there's a need to address incidences of accidents in Auchi."
This was made known by Chief Desmond Imonikhe, H.O.S of Etsako West Local Government Council on Friday while stating that development is a collaborative effort by government, community and the individual.
In the company of members of the Auchi Development Foundation _ADF led by Chief Dr. Mustafa Muhammed Lecky, Imonikhe informed all that the black Wednesday crash in Auchi town remains ever fresh in the heart of all stakeholders in government and that in view of its gory implications, the council is taking frantic steps at collaborating with all to forestall future reoccurrences.
On his part, the Galadimma of Auchi Sacred Kingdom , Dr. Lecky stated that the purpose of ADF's visit is to know the level of preparedness for action by the EWLG authority in view of putting in place necessary measures requisite for addressing accidents. He asked that the Engineer in charge of feasibility on the matter inform the house on what has been done so far to see where the community can partner for progress.
Engr. Austine Azebokhai, the Council's Director of Works in response stated that the entrance into Auchi town from the Uyi Technical and Ekhei Girls axis shall have barricades to prevent heavy duty vehicles from entering town during the day and this will be manned by security personnels.
He affirmed that sloppy areas into the main hub of activities in town would be given speed breakers.
Dr. Mustafa Lecky appealed that a comprehensive/working report (bill of quantity) be done on what's needed for the exercise so that mobilization can be done in good time.
"This should be a joint responsibility where all stake holders can raise the needed resources for the project being anticipated, we want to have a comprehensive report (bill of quantity) properly documented and a copy given to the Auchi community for immediate action." Dr. Lecky said.
Responding to the request, the Engineer promised to come up with a bill of quantity before the end of Friday and make same available to the Auchi Community and other stakeholders on the matter for onward action by Monday.
ADF appreciated the Council's efforts so far on the discourse of trying to fathom a tangible solution to accidents in Auchi and reiterated that time needs not be wasted any further in actualizing the anticipated results of the discourse.
