Centre for Gender Studies Observe Int'l. Day Against Drug Abuse in Auchi

The Centre for Gender Studies, Auchi Polytechnic has observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the Polytechnic Community on Wednesday.

The event which kicked off at the premises of Office of Center for Gender Studies, Area 2 of the Campus featured Sensitization of staff and students against the vices of drug abuse and selfmedication.



The procession went around all areas of the institution as well as visited Auchi main town to spread the message, warning against the dangers of addiction to controlled substances and consumption of illegal drugs.

Speaking to the public on the Issue, the Chairperson of the Centre, Mrs. Evelyn Okhiro explained that the best decision an ill patient can make is to see or call a doctor as same has the capacity to observe, test, diagnose and prescribe medications for the well being of patients.

She encouraged students to focus on their studies and desist from associations, events and areas that could lead them to indulge in vices such as consumption and use of drugs.

The Chairperson stated that medical attention should only be sought for from doctors and that staff, students and members of the public should endeavor to take medication according to doctor's prescription.

Mr. Justice Idiagie, Dean of Students Affairs, Mr. Braimah Jafar Lucky Marcus (Mr. Dress Code), Barr. Mrs. Dupe Obaro, Mr. Nurudeen together with Exco members of the Students Union Government (SUG) among others were on ground to help amplify and share message.





World International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed every June 26th to create awareness about the dangers of Drug Abuse and Trafficking but was observed on the 30th of June by the Centre for Gender Studies, Auchi Polytechnic in view of the need to reach a large number of resuming students and staff in the Polytechnic Community. This year's theme was "SHARE FACTS ON DRUGS: SAVE LIVES."

Placards, Banners, Jingles bearing tags like #SAVE LIVES, SAY NO TO DRUG #STAY SAFE, SAY NO TO SELFMEDICATION #SEEK MEDICAL HELP #NO TO 'ANGEL DUST', 'DESIGNER DRUGS'/ ECSTASY, 'SK AND LOUD were flown in the cause of the procession around campus and Auchi town.
