Residents of Setraco Street Sand-fill Road, Call on Obaseki, Imonofi

Youths resident in Setraco Road in Auchi Sacred Kingdom were seen on Wednesday sand-filling the gully riddled street.

The road accommodates the old Setraco Construction Company’s Residential area and hitherto the adverse effect of erosion, it was the major route to Auchi Comprehensive College.

This is not the first time residents of the street have come together and generated resources with which to help cushion the effect of corrosive run-off water since the road is neither tarred nor does it have drainages for channeling water during rainfalls. It has become a reoccurring decima and an onerous task for the residents therein to raise funds for the perennial problem of erosion in the area.

Given the import of good roads and drainages as well as the downsides of their unavailability, the residents have continually grappled with efforts towards ameliorating the situation and call on the government of the day to hear their plight and bring succor to the people.

“Please take pictures or even videos of this road and our efforts at patching it. Put them up on the social media so that the people and government of Edo state will see that we are suffering and smiling. Governor Obaseki must know that his regime will be evaluated based on how well he has responded to issues such as these. ” said a resident who claimed anonymity.

Youths at Work in Setraco Street

While interacting with a bike-rider who had to join in the work after having dropped his passenger in the street, jeyKAD discovered that those who ply the road with vehicles and motorcycles spend a lot in the repairs of their means of transportation due to bad roads accessioned by erosion.

Road wey erosion spoil dey spoil our okada well well. Even motors dey collect their own for the godogodo road. Thank God say people wey dey stay Setraco road dey organize like this because e get some streets for this Auchi wey we no dey gree carry passengers go again because of bad road wey dey there.

Me I know no whether those people for Local Government no dey see weytin dey happen for streets. E go good make the chairman of Etsako west come see weytin dey happen for all these roads make he find way to reach our governor because erosion no be person friend. ” he said.

This is a call on relevant authorities in the local and state government levels to look into the problem of bad roads in our streets in view of proffering solutions to same.
