The Aidonogie of South-Ibie, HRH Alhaji Aliyu Kelvin Danesi has through the instrumentality of social media addressed the worrisome trend of image-breaking that some youths and party followers have adopted in the wake of the year 2020’s Edo Guba electioneering campaigns.

He noted with dismay how his attention has been drawn to the ignoble act where some indigenes of South-Ibie have resorted to bringing their political opponents to disrepute before the whole world on the social media just to score cheap political points and stated that the saner way to indulge in politics and politicking is not by name-calling or image denting but through constructive criticisms and issue based campaigns.

For the past few weeks I have received several calls, messages from eminent sons and daughters of our great kingdom regarding the unruly behavior of some of my subjects in different social media platforms.

I have taken time to monitor some of our posts on social media particularly Facebook and Twitter. I must confess that some of you have gone out of political decorum and respect for others belief …

The consistent abuse, gossip, fighting and tarnishing of your fellow kinsman reputation on social media (worldwide) portray us bad to outsiders.” he said

He further stated that politics is a game of interest and that the ability of people to drive and sell their interests politely, persuasively and respectfully is the beauty of democracy.

Speaking to the question of whether South-Ibie is affiliated to one party alone as claimed by some opinion leaders in the community, the King made it clear that the wisest thing to do is not to put all eggs in one basket as the Kingdom is democratically set up in such a way that members are free to express their political interests as card carrying members of whatever political parties they choose to follow as long as their activities are civil and responsible.

I am happy South-Ibie kingdom consist of individuals from different political divide. Let’s not give the impression that we are a one party community as the end always justify the means.

Nobody except Allah knows where the pendulum will eventually swing. So let’s respect each other because at the end, both the winners and the losers will still be among us.” he said

Furthermore, Itsemhakhona the number one Afenmai Radio show that has gone online via LIVE streams on AUCHI BLOGspot, has also brought to fore through her Thursday’s programme the need for youths who are building their political carriers to jettison e-lynching/e-mobbing their opponents on the social media as this is not the Moral way to go in selling their candidates during electioneering campaigns. They called on leaders of all communities to weigh in on the issue in view of warning their children about the dangers of creating enmity and straining kinship ties in an attempt to sell whatever candidate or political party they are in support of.
