Herein are recent activities that have transpired in Afenmai

We brought to you that HillSide 94.1 has been repositioned and set for operation having been brought down by the storm of March 4th, 2020. The radio had suffered a loss of her mast to the storm and circumstances beyond control occasioned by the covid-19 pandemic that led to the lockdown of academic institutions, public places cum ban in interstate travels which hampered the speedy work that had already began by the management under TPL Dr. Sanusi Momodu Jimah, Rector of Auchi Polytechnic. With the eased lockdown, Management has now facilitated the completion of the radio.

 

In another development, Family, Friends and Fans of the late football legend, Coach Amodu Shuaibu took to the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena in Auchi Sacred Kingdom to remember him with a resolve to immortalizing his legacy in the development of football in Edo state. Sir Sadoh Yekini the organizing secetary of the event told  AUCHI BLOGspot that the event was meant to mark the beginning of a tournament cum foundation in honor of Coach Amodu that will promote local talents in sports and ensure that youths of Afenmai extraction are engaged and encouraged into stardom.

 

The covid-19 experience has in no small measure thought the Afenmai people new ideas on the need to maintain good hygiene in view of boosting their immunity against the deadly pandemic. With heightened consciousness levels accasioned by messages from the Palace of the Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom together with other traditional Rulers in Edo North, health oriented campaigns by the Local and State government officials, messages churned out by NGOs, Community Progressives groups like the Auchi Allied Association, Etsako 81, ADYA, Concerned Sons and Daughters, The Forum as well as media messages from local to national and international platforms, the people have had no other choice than to follow what is right in view of flatening the curve and breaking the chain of transmission through the WHO, NCDC and Government laid down protocols and precautionary measures.

The compulsory use of none medical facemasks, hand sanitizers, use of water and soap for regular hand washing and the need to keep clean our environment and body made the chunk of messages churned by the Itsemhakhona crew via AUCHI BLOGspot’s LIVE streams (via www.facebook.com/itsemha) to drive home the message of covid-19’s seriousness and severity.

 

The drama occasioned by relocation of market women from their original market places to new locations like schools’ premises has also ended as the marketers have now gone back to their places of commerce. Remember that the government took a decision to among other things, fumigate market places and this caused a lot of distress and mixed feelings which subsided as soon as the people went back to their original places.

Covid-19 test centers have also been established in the wards of the region (Afenmai) to help check for early signs that may signal the presence of the virus in those who go for checking.

 

The Flood Alleviation and Protection works of Igbei Quarters in Auchi Sacred kingdom continues to progress despite the hindrances occasioned by the rainy season. The project which is aimed at savaging the problem of erosion in Egbei road is being done by NEWMAP in conjunction with the Edo state government.

 

In view of the raining season, heavy rains have began to carve out gullies in Osomeke/Oshiomhole Villages of Auchi Sacred Kingdom. Recently, residents of Water Tanker road were cut off from gaining access to the main road to town due a heavy downpour that eroded the most part of the top soil. This prompted HRH Aliru H. Momoh, the Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom to swiftly come to the aid of the suffering community to provide fillers for the soil which brought succor to the people.

 

The shutdown of businesses has led to the proliferation of a multiplicity of social media groups on the facebook platforms. Typing Afenmai related keywords in the group search engine of facebook may now give you a multiplicity of results in split seconds. People of Afenmai extraction have now taken to the trend of creating platforms on the social media with which to engage and communicate others from same roots. Notably, Afenmai Sons and Daughters as created by Inobeme Victor garnered over 43thousand members within a space of 2months to its credit in view of bringing together sons and daughters of Edo North. Afenmai Helpline has also been created to help Sons and Daughters of Afenmai when the need be. All these you’ll see when you make use of your facebook’s search engine.

 

Friday Jumah Service was held for the first time in 3months since the covid-19 lockdown on Friday in Auchi Sacred Kingdom. With the gradual easing of the lockdown, the Presidential Task Force on covid-19 had approved that religious activities can once again be held only on Sundays for the Christians and Fridays for the Muslims with strict adherence to the covid-19 protocols. This prompted Muslims to once again pray the congregational prayers in the various Jumah Centers in and around Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

 

 A recent tweet from the Saudi Gazette holds that from Sunday, June 21st, Saudi Arabia would lift coronavirus nationwide curfew. This info is corroborated by a health worker in Saudi. Mrs. Zeleha who hails from Iyekhei in Auchi Sacred Kingdom confirmed that shes is elated by the development stating that she has not been to her residence in the past 3months because of her engagement as a frontline worker in the health sector in Saudi Arabia.

 

In politics, a lot of intrigues, twists and turns like never before have held sway on the intra and inter political parties level.

The unending misunderstanding between the All Progressives Congress National Chairman cum ex governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Aliu Oshiomhole and the incumbent Governor of Edo state, His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki has thrown the party in disarray as both AAO and GGO have left the party via suspension as National Chairman and Resignation from the party as member respectively.

The aggrieved Governor who was denied the opportunity to contest in the forth coming primaries under the APC on the basis of his credentials and alleged anti-party activities resigned his membership with the APC in favour of the hitherto opposition party in the state, the PDP. Shortly after this, an Appeal Court judgement upheld the suspension of AAO from the leadership of the APC.

The forgoing has seen Local Government Chairmen and party officials together with members making their way out of the APC to the PDP in view of helping GGO achieve his 4+4 Agenda.

 

In all these development, AUCHI BLOGspot observes that the covid-19 preventive precautionary protocol as entrenched by the WHO, NCDC, FG and even the new Gazette made by the Edo state Government have all be flouted with flagrant disregard.

We hereby appeal that relevant institutions weigh in to savage the situation before the pandemic overwhelms our health sector.

The Civil Society, NGOs and Media must call out the abuse of power that has held sway recently on all parts of the divide, the irresponsible act of disobeying regulations meant to curtail the spread of covid-19 and call on the Presidency to stop being silent at the detriment of the lives of Edo people.
