The endless political crisis that has rocked the ruling APC in Edo State,
appears to be spreading fast like an incurable virus, as the opposition party,
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been infested with the bug.
Some leaders of the PDP in the state have obtained a court order restraining
the the party from going ahead with its planned LGA Congresses scheduled for
Saturday, February 8.
The court order also queried the credibility of the earlier ward congresses
conducted by the party.
Justice Joy Okeaya- lnneh, of the Edo State High Court, Ekpoma, gave the
restraining order while ruling on an exparte suit filed by some aggrieved PDP
members in the state.
Justice Okeaya- lnneh restrained the party from conducting the scheduled LGA
Congress across the state on Saturday.
The suit, HEK/9/2020, was filled by some aggrieved PDP members. The
arrowheads of the legal battle includes former members of the Edo State House
of Assembly such as Hon Gallant Eruanga who represented Constituency 2, Etsako
West; Victor ldakheoa and Jide Obalowoshe respectively.
The interim court order also included an order restraining the PDP and INEC
from announcing, publishing and recognising the results of the earlier
conducted ward congresses.
While granting the restraining order, Justice Okeaya- lnneh said she was
satisfied with the applicants met the guidelines for such an order, as
enshrined in the landmark case of Kotoye vs CBN (1989).
Further hearing of the substantive suit was adjourned to February 24.
