Auchi
Day Football Competition currently on going at the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena has
recorded a twist of event as the reigning champions who begun the tournament on
a poor footing have made it to the finals for a face-off with team Utsogun.
Things
started to look good for the team on match day 6 when they trashed Igbei to a
4:1 win that took them off the bottom of the table to 3rd position having
gathered 4points altogether from 1win and 1draw.
Meanwhile
Iyekhei who had the clear chance of making it to the finals were held down to a
2:2 draw by Aibotse. Having gathered 5 points from a win and 2draws with 3goals
to show, they had 5points and were placed 2nd on the table but the ensuing
match that took place between Aibotse and Akpekpe on Match day 7 which ended in
a goalless draw earned Akpkpe 1more point to make it 5 points and 4goals to
show. The resulting goals rating gave Akpekpe the advantage over Iyekhei with a
clear path to the finals against Utsogun who have won all four of their
appearances with an accumulated 12points and 5goals in all.
3rd
place was played on match day 7 (January 6, 2020) between Iyekhei and Igbei but
the game which saw a lot of missed goal scoring chances for both sides,
recorded just 1 goal which struck by Christian who wore jersey number 16 for
Igbei.
Igbei
made it to the 3rd place tussle against Iyekhei by accumulating 3points from
their win against Aibotse on match day 2 while Aibotse who couldn’t win in all
4 outings left the tournament with 2losses, 2draws and 2goals to show.
Mr.
Sado Yekini from Igbei has since appreciated the Igbei boys for bringing home
the Bronze medal of the 9th Edition of Auchi Day Football Competition. The sports
enthusiast and staff of Auchi Polytechnic was grateful and used the medium of
facebook to show the uncommon talents in the world of football Igbei has.
“Igbei FC was defeated in the Finals of the
Auchi Day Competition last year and won the third place this year. For a record
of five years we have played in the finals or semi finals. I wish to appreciate
all my friends who believe in me and have supported my HERITAGE FOOTBALL CLUB _Team
Igbei. We hope for a better outing next year.” He said.
He
also stated that there is an urgent need to upgrade the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena
as this will in no small measure improve on the quality of football and expose
the talents and potentials of Auchi’s
footballers.
“Sport is a real business. Let’s invest in it”
he concluded.
Akpekpe
will be looking forward to defend their ‘Reigning
Champions’ title against team Utsogun who have pulled an unprecedented
back-to-back wins in all their 4 appearances this season.
The
match is slated to kickoff by 4pm at the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena on Tuesday the 7th
of January, 2020.
