"Save our Roads from Further Destruction by Heavy Duty Trucks" _a passionate appeal to Edo State Government

The Edo State Government of Nigeria has been called upon by a group of concerned individuals to urgently look into the unchecked activities of heavy duty trucks who use township roads across Etsako West through Owan and Akoko-Edo to connect Benin, Ondo and Delta states from the North and from same states while heading northward.

A look at the Clip herein shows how badly torn the said roads (some of which were newly constructed) have become in a short period and from here one can project how 'more grotesque' same roads would become in no distant time, causing unimaginable hardship to road users and residents along these paths.

The recent efforts of the Government so far at deterring heavy duty trucks drivers from using township roads as detour by creating crossbars together with the strong statement made through the suspension of 3 Local Government Heads of Administration (over allowing trucks pass through their immediate constituencies) are well appreciated but going beyond that, and in view of giving quality governance to the people of Edo State, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu should as a matter of urgency weigh in to ensure that these roads are promptly rehabilitated.

More so, although we are aware how much effort has been committed to providing palliatives on the the Agbede-Ekpoma axis of Benin-Okene Expressway over time, we appeal that the Administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki prevails on the Federal Government of Nigeria to facilitate the total overhauling of the damaged parts which have driven heavy duty trucks into our various communities (so that your good works can be preserved and be safe from the wear and tear of heavy trucks).

Please note that the Agor-Otuo and Afuze-Uhumora township and interconnecting roads are important to the living standard of our people. An unchallenged continuous destruction of these roads portends imminent danger to social, cultural, economic and political wellbeing of everyone in Edo North and beyond owing to the fact that these roads facilitate numerous commercial gains for all who use same.

Let us not forget state that we appreciate your efforts at creating new roads and working on former routes in the mentioned areas of this piece.

However, the majority of these roads have been degraded (thereby reducing your good work and efforts at improving infrastructure to nothing). Please do not give up in your mission at ensuring that EDO is Truly GREAT AGAIN.

At this juncture all stakeholders of the current administration of HE, Governor Godwin Obaseki should throw their weight behind the governor so that the needful can be done in record time.
