51 Public Sec. Sch. Students, 1 University Undergrad Get Scholarship Grants Courtesy of Utsogun Forum

"We Need More Donors to Keep Our Children in School" _Dr. 99

Some Beneficiaries of Utsogun Forum's scholarship Scheme

No fewer than 51 Students drawn from various quarters of Utsogun Heritage Zone in Auchi Sacred Kingdom have been given scholarship by the Utsogun Forum of Auchi on Saturday.

The event which was held at the residence of Alhaji Muhammed Abubakar (a.k.a Muhammed and Rose) saw the Awarding of scholarship grants to indigent but brilliant public secondary school students to the tune of 51 beneficiaries plus a university undergraduate.

Speaking on the import of the scholarship, Sir Ali Shaka (the spokesperson at the occasion) informed all that hard times necessitated the formation of Utsogun Forum's scholarship Scheme as initiated by the Daudu of Utsogun Heritage Zone, Chief Jimoh Garuba. He established that the intent of the scholarship is to give hope to indigent students who are brilliant but have limited resources that are necessary for affording academic adventures.

The Home President of the body, Alh. Muhammed Abubakar recounted how the body was formed in 2008 by the initiator and appealed that the beneficiaries should make the body proud so that donors will be motivated do more with the hopes of ensuring that no child from Utsogun is left behind (education wise).

On his part, the National President and founder of the scheme, Chief Jim Garuba, Daudu of Utsogun Heritage Zone prayed for the continued growth of the body and encouraged the students to ensure that they are studious in view of contributing to the development of the community in the nearest foreseeable future. He stated that the scheme is not only academic oriented and informed all that the body has at various times helped artisans to get their working tools as well as pay for the training fees (once the potential beneficiaries are found worthy of the grants).

Dr. Elamah a.k.a Chief 99, the Efua of Auchi seized the opportunity to appeal to more potential donors to join the number of contributors in order to get more resources needed to keep the scholarship and grant scheme going. He emphasized on the need for collaboration between parents and the Utsogun Forum in view of ensuring that children under school age are catered for --for the good of community stating that it will be a thing of pride to know that irrespective of the pockets of parents from Utsogun, no child under school age is out of school.

"Children should be encouraged to study. Don't send your children on errands when they are supposed to be focused on their books. Let's not forget that there's a law that forbids children under school age to be used for hawking and other errands that will keep them out of school when it's not holiday period.

Let's respect this law, collaborate with the Utsogun Forum and teachers where our children are schooling in view of bettering the future of Auchi through ample education for our children." He said.

The issue of community core values was entrenched by the body as parents were encouraged to communicate in the Yèkhe dialect which is the official language of the Etsako people while at home instead of substituting same with an adulterated version of English Language (Pigin).

Fathers were called upon to always try to attend functions such as the Awarding of scholarships and grants to their children as this to a large extent motivates the donors to keep pushing through with the programme.

Noteworthy is the fact that parents were passionately advised to always be present in the lives of their children through genuine concern for the advancement of their children's course in life. The role of discipline and friendship between parents and children was emphasized in building a healthy relationship at home.
