His Excellency, Mr. Godwin N. Obaseki, Governor of Edo State has on Tuesday promised to begin and complete the building of a Passport Office in Auchi before the end of 2022.

The Governor made the promise in the presence of the Minister of Interior and Former Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who was in Benin City to launch the state's Passport Production Center and e-Passport system.

"Today, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and I launched the Benin Passport Production Centre and the enhanced electronic passport to improve passport application process in the state.
We will complete the building of a passport office in Auchi before the end of the year. This will ease the process of passport application, particularly in Edo North Senatorial District, as well as the production and issuance of passports to Nigerians living in Edo." Obaseki said.

The import of this development is that (when seen to fruition) Passport application will be easier and faster for the ever growing numbers of applicants in Edo state and beyond.
Moreso, this is expected to trigger more growth in the economy of Edo state with a lot of ripple effects positively in the gainful engagement of youths either directly or indirectly.
