The Taskforce on Clearing Walkways which was inaugurated by HRH Alh. A.H. Momoh on Sunday at the OiC have paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Aigbonoga Igienekhume the Head of Department of Environment at the Etsako West Local Government Council on Wednesday.

Led by AbdulLawal Momoh the Yamah of Auchi Sacred Kingdom the team informed the HOD on the OiC's resolve to bring sanity to the community by clearing the walkways off trade activities that have held sway despite prior efforts at clearing the ways.

Chief Nurudeen Oseni, Daudu of Oshiomole village stated that the Taskforce as inaugurated by His Highness, seeks to work with the LGA together with the Police and Sister agencies and pledged resolve to ensure that actionable plans are mapped out to clear the walkways this time.

On his part, the HOD stated that the issue has been of concern and expressed elation over the visit and told the team that the Department of Environment has in view of the recent event of BLACK WEDNESDAY served everyone on the walkway papers to vacate the paths.

He told the team that though his department is not prepared to apply a Military approach at removing people from the walkway, he is happy that the community has created a taskforce to give the motion more weight.

Director of Administration, Chief John Ogiadomhe who was present at the meeting stated that if the walkways were clear, the loss of life and property that occured on Wednesday would have been less. He appreciated the visit and told the team that there are on going plans which hitherto involved meeting with the Otaru to get community representatives for the motion.

"Thank God that His Royal Highness is involved now. Once the people know that His Highness is involved in the motion for clearing the walkways, they'll comply."

The Director stated that standards will be applied in the process to prevent sharp practices and ensure compliance in all.

An inaugural meeting is to be held where all stakeholders (comprising of the Road Safety, Police, Civil Defence, OiC Taskforce) will finalize plans on executing the walkway clearing exercise.
