Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources has commissioned its Edo State Area Office and Integrated Farms in Auchi on Thursday.

The epoch event took place at Auchi Sacred Kingdom where the Auchi Integrated Farms (Songhai Model) together with an Administrative Office where officially declared open for use.

It was a grande ceremony that transpired simultaneously at Auchi, Obayantor, Okpe and Uneme N'Ekhua in sync and was streamed live via zoom for virtual audiences to participate and be in the scheme of things as events unfolded.

At Auchi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III was present to declare the facility open with Royal blessings and prayers for the success of its operations to the glory of God and for the benefit of mankind.

Hajia Mariam Kadiri Nee'Obomeghie a daughter of Auchi and Project Director at the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) was on ground and in her Goodwill message, she informed all and sundry about His Highness' strong will, desire and focus on the need to develop Auchi and place the Kingdom on lofty heights amongst her peers in Edo North.

Citing the King's provision of the lands used for the establishment of Auchi Integrated Farms and Administrative Office free off charge, she stated that the Otaru's open hands has brought in so much development because everyone feels safe to invest, trade and  live in Auchi _the Home of Hospitality, Peace and Progress which has now become the fastest developing town growing into a city in the most populous Black Nation of the world _Nigeria.

Hon. Abubakar Momoh on his part corroborated the features of the King as x-rayed by Hajia Mariam and extolled the virtues of the MD of BORBDA who happens to be a son of Auchi _Chief Engr. Saliu O. Ahmed, the Sadiq of Auchi for being a visionary and foresighted cum hard working son of the soil who believes so much in work than in speeches.

He stated that since his coming onboard to the leadership of the Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority, the problem of lack of water has been aggressively addressed as evident in the citing of borehole projects all over.

Located along Auchi-Igarra road, between the Federal Correctional Facility and Farmers' Market the Integrated Farms will be cultivating carrots, tiger nuts, cucumber, water melon, tomatoes, pepper, okra, sweet corn fluted pumpkin cassava and more.

Cashew, Pawpaw, moringa, mango, plantain, citrus and other agro-forestry produce will also be grown here with the raising of livestock such as Fishes, snails, goats, cows, poultry, grasscutters etc.

Additionally, amongst other features the integrated Farms has a sales point, green house, juice factory, groundnut oil factory, palm oil and cassava processing, abattoir and smoking kiln, broiler pen and other facilities necessary for the operation of comprehensive farm.

A Farming Manual for Youths was also launched at the event to in view of the government's push towards food sustainability  encourage people to go into farming.
