PRESS RELEASE

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, Greatest Nigerian Students, the entire students' community of Edo State and by extension Nigeria, I bring you all solidarity greetings on behalf of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Today we are here to constitute, Inaugurate, and commission the Joint Campus Committee, Edo state axis here at the foremost Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.

This Committee shall oversee and coordinate the affairs of all Nigerian Students in Edo state across all the various campuses. They are to undertake and see the welfare of all Nigerian Students within this axis as their topmost priority as well as ensure that the right and privileges of all Nigerian Students across the various campuses in Edo are not being trampled upon by any individual, organization, management of institutions, etc.

Mandatorily, in line with our tradition, I first want to bring you all up to speed, on the current state of the various campuses within this axis.

EDO STATE POLYTECHNIC USEN:-

Like other tertiary institutions in Nigeria, the Edo State Polytechnic Usen has had it's own share of the pandemic caused challenges which hugely affected virtually all sectors in the country not excluding the educational sector. This has had its own saddening effect in the school's finances, all for which regrettably our members which are students have been at the receiving end mentally and financially.

On the above note, we are calling on the management of Edo State Polytechnic Usen, to consider the mental health and ability of the students in that campus when drawing up their academic calendar for the about to begin semester, to avoid rush for whatever reason that negates the NBTE Basic requirement of at least 12 weeks for a semester so as not to defeat the primary essence of education which is to learn effectively without undue and avoidable mental stress.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION IGUEBEN:- 

We appreciate the effort of the Edo State government in trying to restructure and revamp the state's owned college of education while also calling on them to consider uplifting the status of the college, as well as increase it's investments and commitments to the college so as to make it befiting and eligible to compete among its peers in the overall interest of Nigerian Students that are in that campus.

THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN:-

We appreciate the management of the University of Benin on its visible efforts towards making UNIBEN one of the foremost citadel of learning in the country and beyond. We are urging the management to put the mental health and ability of the students in that campus well into consideration at every point in time considering the current situation of the country that is not favorable to all and sundry. We are equally using this medium to call on them to ensure that the forth coming Student Union Election is conducted in a free and fair manner without any form of interference.

AMBROSE ALI UNIVERSITY:-

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Benson Osadolor within his little time in office has proven that he is a man that believes in equity and due process and for that, Nigerian Students in that campus are optimistic that he will extend his goodwill thus far to the students rhyme by ensuring that at all levels, leadership is not imposed on the students but rather students will at all levels, from the halls of residents, departments, up to the SUG level be given the democratic privilege to decide who represents them without any form of deprivation or imposition while also assuring him of the continuous cooperation of NANS and the entire students community as we look forward for a date from the management for the re-conduct of the cancelled union election for the 2020/2021 academic session.

AUCHI POLYTECHNIC:-

The Acting Rector of Auchi Polytechnic has demonstrated in the highest capacity his ability to lead, spearhead and manage both Capital and Human Resources considering the huge changes that has visibly taken place within the Polytechnic and it's host community ever since his appointment as the acting rector of the Polytechnic. Permit me to inform you all that since the emergence of Engr. Mustafa Adeboye Zubair as the acting rector of Auchi Polytechnic, the students Community has enjoyed a well structured and robust academic adventure. This is with the presence of peace and harmony among students, staff and by extension members of the host community whose testimonies are visible and knows no bound.

Today, within the axis, we can boldly say that he is, thus far the most proven tertiary institution administrator within the axis and we are calling on all concerned, mostly the honorable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu to in the interest of goodwill and deeds done to Nigeria Students confirm the appointment of Engr. Mustafa Adeboye Zubair as the Rector of the Polytechnic.

INSECURITY:- 

We are calling the federal and state governments and by extension all security agencies to please intensify their efforts in the fight against Banditry and Kidnapping across the entire length and breadth of Edo State mostly along the Benin-Auchi Expressway.

Conclusively, we are calling on all vice-chancellors, Rectors and Provosts to please continue to play their fatherly and motherly role over all Nigeria Students in the various campuses while assuring them all of the full cooperation in the above regard of NANS as the apex students body in Nigeria.
