Josemaria Escriva Foundation (JOSEF) has Inaugurated her new board of trustees and held its third edition of a life changing Lecture Series on Tuesday at Ekpoma.
The event was held at the Chosen Hotel main hall in Ihumudumu and played host to professionals drawn from various disciplines, organizations and institutions who were hosted by the Chief Responsibility Officer, Comr. Obasanmi Jude (Ph.D).
This year's theme of the lecture series was tagged 'Rethinking the Dilemma of Wealth Without Source and it's Security Implications for Nigeria' _a topic that was addressed by Professor Marshall Azeke, Lecturer, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma.
The Professor faulted definitions of wealth as found in various Dictionaries and Thesaurus stating that these definitions focused mainly on the 'material' aspect of wealth rather than that of peace and contentment.
Sir Marshall explained that since wealth was presumed to be the amount of material possessions one has at his/her disposal, people, especially today's youths have become more concerned with the accumulation of money, cars, lands, houses more than peace of mind which should be the true wealth.
Professor M. Azeke who is also a Deeper Life Pastor x-rayed the current travails of Nigeria as a nation and explained that the country is where it is as a result of inspirers of wealth without source. Some of these inspirers he said are; Some Nigerian Politicians who Misappropriate and Embezzle Public Funds/Resources, Wrong Parental Upbringing where likes beget likes, Prosperity Preaching from Religious Leaders, and Wrong Value System.
The Event featured a panel discussion around Wealth Without Source and in all, the following concerns were generated as issued in JOSEF's communique:
1. Community/Traditional Leaders should ensure that those living in their communities have known source of livelihood.
Ad:
2. Government should encourage Community Policing and empower the works of Local Vigilante Groups.
3. Religious Leaders should ensure that their messages are centered on value reorientation and positive mindset for wealth creation.
4. Parents should instill family values, train their children the way they should grow and always check what they do and with whom they associate.
5. The youths should develop capacity to be relevant in the global space.
Mr. Peter Pacqueens Aisagbonhi, Chairman of the occasion made a donation and Presentation of 10 cartons of books and other learning materials to be distributed to Students and pupils with a promise to more for the benefit of Mankind and to the Glory of God.
Speaking on the theme of the event Sir Peter appealed passionately for a deliberate and purposeful attempt at shunning acts that are capable of inspiring youths to seek wealth by means considered illegal and warned the political class against activities that are capable of plunging the country further into crisis and underdevelopment. He stressed the need for those in power to be proactive and help build the national rather than become takers. This was corroborated by the Royal Father of the day, HRH Oba Sule Idaiye, King of Somorika who reiterated the need for selfless services to humanity and alleviation of poverty to engender security. His Highness appreciated the works of JOSEF and appealed for an operational branch of the organization be brought close to his people in Akoko-Edo and encouraged the younger ones who were present as representatives of their secondary schools to always seek out and attend occassions such as JOSEF's events so that they can learn a lot from the experiences and teachings of the aged.
Head of the new Board of Trustees, Professor Matthew A. Izibili (Ph.D) promised to take measures and put in efforts at ensuring that the values for which Josemaria stood are upheld and that the request of HRH Oba Sule Idaiye will be looked into.
All representatives of Secondary Schools who attended the event received learning and instructional materials on behalf of their schools.
The media, civil society and members of the public were well represented at the event.
