Youths of Iyuku Community from Uzairue Kingdom were seen protesting alleged unfair treatment by their traditional rulers on Monday.

This incidence was made known to Enaholo J.K. through eyewitnesses who were at the scene when the event played out earlier in the day along the major road leading into the community from the Benin-Okene Expressway.

All witnesses to the scene that played out are agreed on the basis that the youths expressed dissatisfaction over how the traditional rulers have handled the affairs of the Iyuku people over time.

Trouble is said to have started when the people stood up against the problem of total-blackout that has persisted for months unending. They took to the streets, blocked the major road and called out their leaders to step in for a positive solution to the lingering absence of electrity.

They were said to have also raised the issue of Internally Generated Revenue gotten from the Solid Mineral Miners in the areas, stating that the Community Leaders should as a matter of transparency, account for the monies gotten and use same for projects that are people oriented.

Whilst airing and venting their demands, an altercation ensued when a chief of the community tried to drive through the barricade that had been created by the youths. Soon after this was settled, a driver in a bid to evade the protesting youths knocked down a young man at the scene who gave up the ghost on the spot.

This incidence is said to have led the angry youths to resort to lynching the young man who drove the vehicle but the intervention of a respectable Youth Leader brought in calm as the young man was handed over to the Nigerian Police for appropriate handling of the matter.

Two things are clear here. 1. The youths are demanding for the leaders to put into good use IGR generated from payments made by Solid Mineral Miners in the area for the benefit and Development of the Community. 2. They are demanding for an end to the lingering power outage that has grounded economic activities and is begining to bite hard on the poor who cannot afford to fuel their generators continuously to power their ventures.
