Members of Afenmai Hunters Association, Auchi Branch celebrated the coming to an end of 2020 alongside the dawn of a new regime under Chief Umar O. Abdulkadiri at Idaniyeluwa on Sunday.
It was an historical celebration where Abdukadiri the double Chairman of the Association both at the Afenmai and Auchi Levels jubilated in elation with his members, thanking God for the gift of life upon all and the seeming good end to the year despite the wave of pandemic.
The popular but age-long Hunters Dance known as Isiko was flamboyantly displayed for the entertainment of guests _young and old. It was one event that had in view some of the antiques that made entertainment in the days of old a stream of events to anticipate. These included the set of drums known as Ibiza and a gung called Olho. Beautiful sounds emanated from beating (with bare hands) the skins tightly tied to the mouths of the clay pots that formed the drums (Ibiza) while the Olho, a hollow metallic object was hit by a spoon (could also be hit by a spanner or any other metal object) to produce a rhythm that accompanied the manipulation of sounds from the ibizas to put all on their dancing feet.
AUCHI BLOG gathered that the event which comes up yearly garners a lot of funfair but the peculiarity of year 2020, bearing in mind covid-19 restrictions and the need to avoid crowded spaces in line with the NCDC’s precautionary protocols brought about a low-keyed show for the end of the year’s festivity.

However, the double chairman of Afenmai Hunters, Abdulkadiri seized the opportunity to express his profound gratitude to Almighty Allah who had made it possible for all to see the day and appreciated the Otaru of Auchi Sacred Kingdom, HRH Alhaji H.A. Momoh, Ikelebe III of Auchi Sacred City for his fatherly role in providing great leadership for the good of the people.
“Today we are celebrating the end of year festivity of Afenmai Hunters Association, Auchi Branch. This event is one that keeps our old tradition of hunting and the hunters dance (isiko) alive. We are thankful and grateful to Almighty Allah for His mercy and grace upon us and I’m appreciative to the Otaru of Auchi for his role in making me the Chairman of the Auchi Hunters Association just recently.” He said.
Anchored by the famous MC Famous, the event saw the presence of Palace Chiefs, Academics, Entrepreneurs as well as those in the Finance, Legal and Entertainment spheres from both near and far.
