The remains of Godwin Junior from the Iraoya Family of Otuo in Owan East Local Government Area has been laid to rest.
Godwin Junior who clocked 25years on the 10th of October, joined in the demand for good governance on the 19th (9days after his birthday) during the #endSARS nationwide protests. He joined the Edo North Youths at Jattu Junction in Auchi where trigger happy soldiers invaded the group, shot at protesters living many injured and taking his life in the process.
The young orphan who lived with his uncle at Warrake road in Auchi is the last of 4Siblings who until his death was an electronic technician with promise and great potential.
His corpse was retrieved from the Sancta Maria Mortuary after 40 days, brought to Jattu Junction where he was murdered by LT. A.M. Tanko’s led offensive and thereon taken to Otuo for final burial rites as his remains was united with dust from whence he was made by God.
The event was attended by Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, Deputy Governor of Edo State who was represented by Hon. Inusa Imonofi, Chairman Etsako West Local Government Council, civil society groups, comrades and friends of the Iraoyas.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Imonofi on behalf of the Deputy Governor expressed his condolences to the family of Iraoya while affirming that justice will be served.
“I wish to express my deepest sympathy and condolence to the family of Iraoya Godwin Junior, members of the community and everyone in our large community of youths and comrades who have stood with this family in so many ways since the unmitigated loss of our promising son, brother, friend and compatriot, Comrade Iraoya Godwin Junior who fell to a bullet of a coward while exercising his tight to protest against the unjust attitude of a unit of the Nigeria Police, termed SARS.
…indeed it is very sad to note that the family and everyone here today cannot forget in a hurry, this amazing personality and the lofty future he represents. It is often said, “the sad hour can’t be easily predicted” when we say this, we hope this hour would be in a distant future. However this death has thought us how close death could be.”
Describing Godwin Junior as a national hero, the DG stated that his death will not go in vain as he died for the struggle towards the emancipation of Nigerians from hardship and other vices that have marred the nation.
Highpoint of the event was the laying of Godwin Junior’s Remains.
What however seemed odd in all that transpired was the absence of the Owan East Local Government Chairman, Hon. Andy Osigwe who made provisions for digging the grave of Godwin Junior a day before. He was not at the scene on Friday nor was he represented by any official from the OELG Council.
Concerns of friends, guests and spectators border on when justice will be served the murderers of Godwin Junior (even though the case has been submitted to the Edo State’s Judicial Panel) as well as what measures the government both at State and LG level will take to alley the pains of the Iraoyas and how soon?
AUCHI BLOG will keep you updated as usual till justice is served.
