The Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area, Hon. Imonofi Inusa informed Itsemhakhona crew on Friday that though confirmed cases have been recorded in the state, Etsako west remains free from the monstrous covid-19 pandemic.

On a courtesy visit to the council boss, the popular itsemhakhona crew appreciated the chairman on the current relentless fight against the scourge and sought to get from him some of the programmes put in place to forestall any case in the area and more so, point him to some issues to look into to better make firm his resolve to curtail and contain the pandemic.

Hon. Imonofi however, disclosed that every hand is on deck in the fight and stated that a taskforce wherein he acts as chairman has since been constituted. He reported that all ward councilors and women leaders in the Local Government are part of the taskforce with a mandate to sensitize, educate, enlighten and engender good sanitary lifestyles and obeisance to the WHO, NCDC and Government prescribed precautionary measures.

we have on several occasions carried out sensitization campaigns around the various communities in our jurisdiction to educate our people on the need to maintain good hygiene and sanitary  lifestyle to prevent the contamination of the viral infection even though we’ve not recorded any.

The people are encouraged to be mindful of their interactions with people when they are out and should observe changes in their system with a view to reporting any drastic decline or change in their health and not to hide the symptoms simply because of  fear of stigmatization.

The council boss stated that covid-19 is not a death sentence and as such, individuals with symptoms of the disease should make haste to present themselves for testing and treatment because earlier detection helps to break the chain of transmission.

Additionally, Hon. Inusa used the avenue to encourage the people to make use of the various PPEs that have been distributed in the course of various sensitization campaigns stating that the purpose for distributing these hand sanitizers, facemasks as well as situation of hand washing water reservoirs and soaps in strategic places for free is because all these when put to good use, reduce the risk of contaminating the viral infection.

He advised that workers must as a matter of importance comply with the lockdown in place. He said, “workers below grade level 14 are advised to work from home as ordered by the government. Again, in a bid to disinfect our markets we evacuated the market women to various schools in the meantime.

However, this came with certain crowd challenges and as a proactive measure to prevent contamination, we further had to decongest the Azama Primary school area and opened up two other schools in Jattu for the marketers to use.

Even though women in the Uchi market place have returned to their original shades, away from Ekhei Primary school where they’ve been relocated to, we have rolled out measures to further appeal to their conscience and encourage them to be patient while we carry out our lawful duties of safeguarding them from this viral infection.

He further stated that in collaboration with security agencies, people coming from states with high cases of covid-19 patients are being returned back to their states.

having discovered that some people from Kano, a state with high cases of covid-19, are breaking the lockdown order and finding their way down south through Edo. This we got from intelligence reports and as government at the grass root, we have given a standing order that every truck entering our LG through all entry points are thoroughly searched and returned back if they aren’t carrying essential goods.

I am just coming from Jattu junction where a truck carrying Hausas from the North was intercepted. These people claimed to be travelling southward in search of jobs but given the situation on ground and the danger of transmitting this dangerous covid-19, we have returned them back to their state with escorts to ensure that they leave the shores of our state.

We are well aware that aside the danger of transmission of covid-19, there are other security threats embedded in such mass immigration of strangers into our communities. The onus is on us to ensure that such avenues are averted.

The Etsako West Council Boss advised that the people must be aware of the reality of corona virus and that it is the responsibility of everyone to play their part in ensuring that all efforts geared towards curtailing and containing the pandemic is complemented for positive results.
