Heavy downpours of precipitation accompanied by stormy winds have sent roofs off buildings on Wednesday in the cosmopolitan town of Auchi Sacred Kingdom.

Scores of houses scattered all over the town where either brought down partially in the wake of the second rainfall of the year or totally reduced to the ground.

It was an uneasy evening for all, as panic stricken faces wore worry in view of immeasurable destruction of properties that accompanied the icy droplets of water from cumulous clouds.

Drainages were filled to capacity with sand and dirt which made runoff to flood major roads causing more eroding effects to existing gullies and even creating new gullies in flood prone areas.

Ayuba Lawal Ibrahim popularly called Popotenyen told AUCHI BLOGspot that though everyone anticipated and prayed for early rains as a result of the unbearable heat in the first quarter of the year, the current tone of the year’s second precipitation has sent shock waves across as people are beginning to wonder why it has come with unexpected force.
I am surprised that the rains have taken this twist. We have all been praying that the rains begin to fall but nobody prayed for bad rain. I fear that if subsequent rains follow this pattern, we are in for trouble. You can already see that the house beside where I live no longer has a roof and this is true for many others in this area. Fresh gullies have been dug. Instead of us to be jubilating that the rains have finally started falling, the opposite seem to be the case.

I want to use this medium to call on our government at all levels to help savage the situation and put in measures to forestall future occurrences.” He said.

In the same development, Auchi Polytechnic’s Radio Antenna was brought down in the event of the storm. Broadcast activities have been put on hold as management is on her toes to ensure that damaged equipments in all areas of the campus are repaired in the shortest possible time.

It is hoped that in no distant time the management of Dr. TPL Sanusi Jimah having called an emergency meeting and gone round the campus to evaluate the situation on Thursday, will savage the situation and further put measures in place to avert future occurrences as gathered from some members of the Polytechnic Academic Staff Union Chapter.

While farmers are busy trying to repair their damaged roofs and not having time to maximize the advantages of the first rains of this planting season, Carpenters are busy smiling to the bank as their stock in trade is selling fast  because of yesterday’s storm.
