Youths of Egelesor quarters of Auchi Sacred Kingdom have embarked on creation of speed breakers on the newly constructed Kessington Momoh road on Sunday.

It was gathered that the initiative was borne from the fact that road accidents in the area have heightened in recent times as a result of the non availability of speed limiting measures for vehicle and Okada riders.

Led by Abdulwahab Jimah AKA Kabasa, the younger Brother of Tpl. Dr. Sanusi Jimah, Rector of Auchi Polytechnic, the group had deemed it important to carry out a community development service of helping to check the incessant road crashes and its adverse effects on the new road by raising resources through voluntary contributions from shop owners, churches, private schools and other well meaning individuals in Egelesor and along the main road which runs from beside Royal Block at sharp corner to Setraco junction along Warrake road.

Speaking to AUCHI BLOGSPOT, one of the boys who prefers to be addressed as Legend stated that road users have had their fair share of problems arising from accidents on the road lately, especially in the morning on school days when parents are in a hurry to drop off their children in schools.
We are contributing our quota to the development of the community. You know there are lots of children attending schools in our area and they are either coming from the Sharp Corner axis or from Warrake road. The speed at which Okada riders ply this route is very high and this led to an accident that claimed the teeth of a child who was on his way to one of the schools here. We could not bear the scene nor did we want to have a repeat of same that’s why we came up with the idea of going round the neighborhood to source for funds with which we got the materials we are using  to construct these speed breakers.” He said.

Babs, the owner of Aim Printers in his remark appreciated the youths for the good work being done and stated that when he was contacted by the boys he made sure that he gave them the the needed support and even mobilized others to key into the work.
This is very very nice I must say. Vehicles and motorcycles run carelessly on this road and this has had adverse effects on the people here. We don’t want to have a situation where life will be lost to careless driving along this path that is why the youths have taken it upon themselves to ensure that something is done and as you can see, they are doing a beautiful job.
We were able to garner resources from people in and around this place and not surprisingly, everyone we met has contributed generously to the project. Some gave us money to buy materials while others gave us bags of cement and tools of the job.” He concluded.

Achipoko, road user appreciated the youths’ initiative and stated that this will in no small measure help to curb crashes especially accidents involving kids who are either going to school or on errands.
