AUCHI POLYTECHNIC:
Hajia Zeinab Takes Over As Olusheun Bows Out as the Polytechnic
Librarian
By: Jeremiah Enaholo Kadiri
Staff
of Auchi Polytechnic Library have on Thursday organized a send forth party in
honor of the former chief librarian, Sir Olusheun Ekuoye at the Area I Library
extension hall.
It
was a gathering of a people who have worked together for a decade, hence have
become a family under the leadership of a man most described as a father of
all. The event also saw the presence of the Deputy Rector Admin and Academics respectively,
Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments as well as Units Heads.
Ekuoye
who came in as the Polytechnic Librarian in 2010 has been described by staff
therein as one who, though very intelligent and easygoing, is humble and has
through his humility been able to not only unify all the staff of Auchi
Polytechnic Library but more so uplifted the service providing unit in terms of
infrastructure over the years.
Mr.
Mike Osumah in an address described Ekuoye as a duty dogged individual who is
relentless at constantly trying to improve on work place for better service
delivery.
“…before you came on board in 2010,
the Library resources and services were inadequate to do the needful for the
reading community of the Polytechnic. In your professional competence, you
introduced the library User Guide to enable readers understand and gain
unhindered access to the limited resources of the library for study, teaching
and research. This has been very rewarding in promoting the effective
utilization of the library resources for research.” He said.
The
former librarian will be remembered for innovations such as the introduction of
a Single Library Card for potential users, division of the entire library into
various functional units, reinvigoration of the Bindery unit to repackage books
which hitherto were said to be damaged, boosting the IGR capacity of the
library, increment of available physical books from 47,134 to 53,895 with the
exclusion of journals, e-resources and other documents for information and
research, better establishment of the ICT Division, to mention but a few.
“…you successfully coordinated the hosting of
the Maiden National Conference, Tagged LIBCON
2018 with the theme: “Repositioning
Academic Libraries For Effective Service Delivery in the 21st
Century.” This was well attended and has duly enhanced the image of the
library at the national level.
In your management of the Library,
you made communication open and judicious. You had zero tolerance for gossip. In
place of this vice, official memos, meetings, personal contacts were regularly
used to effect communication.”
Mike continued.
Mrs.
Zainab Haruna, the new Polytechnic Librarian stated that the former Library
Boss has bequeathed a legacy of passion, zeal, hard work and devoted service to
the Library and Auchi Polytechnic at large as an energetic, productive,
supportive and dependable colleague. She described him as a resourceful individual
who showed deep understanding of the task and demands of the office he manned.
She
seized the opportunity to appreciate the Rector of the Polytechnic, Tpl. Dr.
S.M. Jimah for his efforts towards a new beginning, a new orientation and a determined
effort at ensuring that the Polytechnic soars enviably high above the rot of
yesteryears.
While
assuring the Polytechnic Community and authorities of her unflinching resolve
to contribute her quota towards uplifting the institution, she appealed to the
Rector to kindly consider her plight for tackling some of the challenges facing
the Library.
Among
others, she demanded for an assessment of the structural defect of the library
extension walls and re-roofing of the main library in view of giving the library
a facelift for better service delivery.
