This year's Aret Adams memorial lecture comes up
on February 25, in Lagos.
The memorial lecture, an annual event to honour
Etsako born late Aret Adams, a renowned oil and gas expert, is organised by the
Aret Adams Foundation.
According to Coordinator of the Foundation, Mr
Akin Jokojeje, this year's lecture, the 17th edition, is tagged,
"Nigeria's Economy After Oil: How Prepared Are We"?.
The Aret Adams Foundation was instituted to
promote and build educational capacity as well as assist in policy formulation.
Mr Jokojeje said the contributions of late Aret
Adams in the energy sector are unquantifiable, stressing he spearheaded efforts
to develop, formulate and deliver a national energy policy to the federal
government in the 1980s, propelled the drive to renegotiate the agreement with
critical stakeholders which led to the successful execution of the Nigeria
Liquefied National Gas (NLNG) project in 1989 and many others.
As part of its efforts at institutionalizing the
ideals of late Aret Adams, the Foundation plans to endow an Aret Adams
professorial chair at the University of Port Harcourt in collaboration with
Shell Petroleum Company
Mr Jokojeje further revealed that the long
proposed Aret Adams professional Chair in Business Entrepreneurial Development
in Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma,Edo state and that of Geological studies at
the University of Ibadan, OYO state will be inaugurated this year.
