The
Rector of Auchi Polytechnic in a symposium held by the Institution’s Chapter of
the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics on Tuesday has stated that though
ethical problems abound everywhere, he is poised at restoring his Place of
Primary Assignment back to Glory.
ASUP
in conjunction with the Management of Auchi Polytechnic had organized a one-day
symposium tagged Ethics and Practices of Academics: Issues, Patterns and Challenges at
the Institution’s Auditorium in Area 1 formally known as Campus 1 to review
problems of ethics and workplace practices in an attempt to awaken staff of the
citadel of higher learning to certain practices that pose as drawback to
performance and the risk associated with same.
TPL
Dr. S.M. Jimah the rector of the Institution reiterated his resolve to fight to
a standstill, corrupt practices that pose as hindrances to academic excellence.
The Aigbebako of Auchi Sacred Kingdom
told all present that being a son of the soil and having spent the most part of
his life in the institution, he has his focus on ensuring that Auchi
Polytechnic is rid off elements that are real and perceived threat to the
enviable heights his administration is taking the Institution to.
Various
drawbacks were cited by speakers in the symposium to show why even though
quality products (students) are produced from polytechnics all over the
country, an unfavorable dichotomy still exists between Universities and
Polytechnics’ graduates and more so, this has transcended to the attention both
academic institutions face in terms of project funding, funding for research and
development, cutoff marks as well as methods and times of admission at the
detriment of polytechnics.
Speaking
on his progress so far in the fight against indecency on campus, the rector
stated emphatically that he is positive that though a lot of institutions of
higher learning are marred with crisis stemming from unethical practices, same
cannot be said for Auchi Polytechnic under his watch. He stated that the
polytechnic has received a total overhauling in the area of fighting sharp
practices and no one is spared in the course of cleansing for the greater good.
“…I have lived all my life here and thank God
for placing me in the position am occupying today. This is my town and I can
tell you for a fact that I know everything and everyone through my interaction with
all…
So far so good I can vouch for 90%
of the staff herein that aren’t involved in sharp practices. The remaining few
that are still deviant will soon find the route leading to the right path
because my administration has no tolerance for those attempting or even
thinking of attempting sharp practices.”
He said.
