The 9th Edition of Auchi
Day Football Competition currently ongoing at the Ikelebe Sports’ Arena in
Auchi Sacred Kingdom is revealing football stars like never before.
Day 2 of the tournament
has recorded wins for both Igbei fc and Utsogun fc in the wake of Sunday the 29th
of December, 2019 matches.
The
match between Igbei and Aibotse which commenced at 9a.m saw Igbei fc as winners
over their opponent in a keenly contested game. The winning goal came early
through a powerful strike that placed the ball safely behind the net of the
Aibotse side in the 1st half of the match through the Igbei team captain,
Kamarudeen who wore jersey number 11.
Utsogun
having knocked down Iyekhei fc in the opening match of Day1 slogged it out
again with the reigning champions, Akpekpe fc at 4:30pm of Sunday. The game recorded
fierce rivalry as the holders of the 8th Auchi Day Football Championship Cup battled
to control the match against their opponent but Utsogun came with even more
confidence and dug in 2goals to humble the Akpekpe side.

The
first strike that brought the ball behind the goalkeeper into the rectangle of
the Akpekpe side was scored at the 14th minute of play during the 1st half of
the game by Felix while Kelvin added a second goal to place a comfortable lead
ahead of the opposing team, Akpekpe.
Though
it was a fierce battle that displayed a show of power coupled with tactical
show of skills in dribbles, passes and tackles, no cards, whether yellow or red,
were recorded all through the match between the duo.
Someone
Momodu the head coach of the Utsogun team expressed elation stating that he has
confidence in the discipline and fitness as well as the focus of his boys to
cling the 9th edition Championship Cup in view of the fact that they won the
reigning champions with a two goal lead even though his team played a day
before.
“You know I told you earlier that my side
will not be chickened by the reigning champions. When you first interviewed me before
the start of the game I told you that 90minutes will tell. This is it. My team
has indeed pulled this through and I’m quite impressed with the way things have
gone in favour of our side. I am hopeful that we shall lift the cup at the end
of the tournament, God willing.” He said.
Nurudeen
(Able) from the Utsogun quarters of Auchi while congratulating the Utsogun
team, stated that one would think fatigue from the opening match wherein they
won by a lone goal would have been trouble for the team given that they were
going to play their next match, next day, against their arch rival in the world
of local football, but he is impressed that the team was able to come out back
to back with good points to show.
Attempts
at speaking with the Akpekpe side didn’t yield as at the time of gathering info
for this piece but a fan of the 8th Edition Champions told jeyKAD that they are not deterred in the wake of this loss. He said
that though his team fought real hard, the goals didn’t come but, as always,
they are going to bounce back and ensure that the cup is retained back-to-back.
So
far so good, Utsogun fc is on top of the table with 6points and 3goals while
Igbei follows closely with 3points and a goal.
Iyekhei
fc will be up against Igbei by 9a.m while Utsogun will again play her third
match in a roll (of the competition) against Aibotse on Monday the 30th of December,
2019.
